Bollywood To Have Its Own Theme Park Just Like Universal Studios?

This is rather a forthcoming surprise. Will we get to see people dressed up as Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra dancing around in the park? A movie dancing class? Whatever it is, the sole purpose of the park is to allow fans to go behind the scenes of the world’s biggest cinema industry in terms of viewers. Percept Holdings, a media and entertainment company, is constructing the theme park at an initial cost of $100 million. In Malaysia, similar plans were made for Johor’s Iskandariah Development Region but it’s not gonna be Malaywood Theme Park, people, it’s Universal Studios. So far from what I understand the plan has been scrapped.

According to Percept Holdings’ boss, Shailendra Singh, “Bollywood accounts for over 40 percent of the total revenues of the overall Indian film industry, but there is no organised format or means to consume this experience.” Hmmmh, 40% only? Whatever makes up the balance of Indian film industry? I guess it’s the movies from U.S. and other countries. The theme park, due to open in 2008, will have Bollywood cafes, a hall of fame, museums, Bollywood rides, sets, shoot visits and simulator experiences.Despite being so prolific — Bollywood makes more than 800 films a year, nevertheless the industry’s revenues stand at only half of what the Walt Disney studio made in box office revenues in 2006.
SHREK AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS
To give you a feel of how big is the Bollywood industry, I can just tell you that is significantly huge, bigger than Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan and Singapore combined! They are on the same par as movies from Hong Kong and Korea to the extent that Shah Rukh Khan has been given a distinct recognition to have his own wax statue in Madame Tussaud’s, London.
