In another exciting weekend, Formula 1 Grand Prix is back and this time the track is Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain. Yesterday Felippe Massa managed to grab the pole position for Ferrari and please come back for more after midnight for full results and pictures. PETRONAS BMW Sauber’s Nick Heidfield will in 4th position in the starting grid for today’s GP. BMW seems to have been doing very well this year. In another news, it’s now has become official, Singapore will be hosting the first ever night race in 2008. After months of negotiations between the Government, entrepreneur Ong Beng Seng and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, Singapore has finally won the right to host the Formula One series. The race is expected to rev up its tourism sector with a projected revenue of some S$100 million. Heyy..wait a minute, hhmmh but it will cost them S$150 million to organise such a race (says Singapore’s TheStraitsTime.com). Will they ever get their money back? The Singapore Tourism Board will fund 60 percent of the S$150 million cost of staging the race with the private sector contributing their share through a cess fund contribution on hotel rates.
The F1 race is slated to take place in September or early October next year. The race track will take the drivers through a 5.2 kilometre circuit covering many of Singapore’s landmarks and heritage sites including the old City Hall, bypassing Suntec Convention Centre, towards Republic Boulevard where the new Singapore Flyer will be located.

Yes, Singapore’s first F1 race promises to be an exciting night race. And there are cheers from every corner of the city-state. Everywhere I turn, everyone’s excited about the news…
I do however, think that there’s no point to zoom into conclusion that it is a success from a sporting standpoint because safety is the biggest issue with night F1 racing. I don’t want to see my favorite driver lose his life just for a night spectacle.
It’s difficult enough to keep up with the 22 drivers on a racing track in mid day… let alone with floodlights? Two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso, didn’t believe floodlights will ever be enough to make night racing safe, so why isn’t anybody listening? Must we have another Ayrton Senna-style death before we put safety back into the priority instead of looking for a novel way to make more money? I think that’s what the comments by the angmoh meant…
Get excited with the prospect of the first Singapore GP, but I mourn the arrival of night racing, as an F1 purist and enthusiast.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

I’d be inclined to give the go-ahead with you here. Which is not something I typically do! I really like reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to comment!
