Spain International Fernando Torres Joins Liverpool

Spain striker Fernando Torres passed a medical exam on Tueday and has completed his move to Liverpool in a glittering signing ceremony today at Anfield. A former player of Atletico Madrid, Torres has scored 82 goals in 214 appearances for Atletico. For Spain, Torres has scored 14 goals in 40 games. British media reports said the transfer fee for Torres was 26.5 million pounds (US$53.4 million; €39.2 million). Luis Garcia has moved to Atletico in exchange. Torres had been at Atletico since 11 and became their youngest ever captain at the age of 19. Torres will wear the number nine shirt worn by ex-Anfield forward’s Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler. I am not quite a LIVERPOOL FAN, but this surely help their previous year’s frustrating attempt to win any trophy. Villarreal’s Diego Forlan has been lined up to replace Torres at Atletico in a £14.2m deal, while the Anfield club have recouped some of their outlay by selling Luis Garcia to Atletico for about £4m. He could be just the ammunition that Rafael Benitez needs to beat Manchester United and Chelsea.
