Gwen Stefani’s The Sweet Escape Concert in Malaysia is Off!!!

Reuters has reported that Gwen Stefani Concert in Malaysia which is scheduled to be held on 21st August is off. This is due to the protest made by the 10,000-strong National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students. Stefani’s August 21 concert in Malaysia, is part of her World’s ‘Sweet Escape’ tour and was claimed to be against the values of Islam. They have complained that there are just too many outside concerts bringing bad influence to the country. This has received massive coverage in the west (HERE and HERE). If that’s the case, don’t you think Dayang Nurfaizah’s and Kris Dayanti’s concerts should be BANNED too?

I agree with AnakSarawak! The bad influence truly comes from within! Within M’sia itself. Most of the artistes here lagi daring in the way they dress and perform…. Ade yang dah gi pilgrimage pun! M’sians should be smart enough to appreciate singers who could have more credibility and spunk in their music than ‘copycats’ here!

Moral decay occcurs more as a result of bad parenting than anything else.In today’s world, with multimedia technology readily available at home,a parent’s role in controlling the levels of exposure and explaining to them what is acceptable and what is not acceptable within our culture is very crucial.I am a Malaysian mom living in the United States for the past 7 years, raising 2 teenagers and one young adult. As far as I can see,my children ,despite being constantly exposed to bad behavior ,dressings and the vices of Paris Hilton,Nicole Richie,Lindsay Lohan on TV,internet ,youtube etc..do not dress or behave that way.Sampai bila nak salahkan orang lain pasal perangai buruk remaja kita?Where is your self discipline and self control.?Tengoklah, cikgu yang molest student dia baru2 ni pun, occured in Jitra, bandar kecik and student tu pun,in all likelihood pakai tudung..Siapa yang salah?Gwen Stefani and the likes of foreigners like her??

Kita halang apa sekadar yang boleh…kalau concert gwen memang boleh mendatangkan maksiat…wajarlah benda tu dibatalkan…tentang orang melayu kita sendiri yang nak ikut budaya barat tu pikir sendirilah…

  9. 9 pop-iah Aug 2nd, 2007 at 8:30 am Quote

aku tak kesah die nak halang.tapi halang2 la betul.muse datang malaysia hari tu,nyanyi lagu unsur2 kristian kuat gila dalam lagu tak pulak bising.

    just,kalau nak bantah tu,bantah la betul2.nih bermusim.

kalau nak bantah2 betul, start dari bantah artis kita sendiri.

Saya sokong ngan pop-iah tu… artis malaysia sekarang ni dah macam lupa diri… Bukan dayang saja, berlambak-lambak yang dedah sana-dedah sini. pengacara pun sama ( cth: hani wachaaa, sazzy falak dan……

kat malaysia pun dah belambak orang seksi… dah tak lalu nak tengok

Wei…….. korang x tgk myspace diaorg ke? Lg teruk!!! Artis perempuan pn merokok dah tak sorok2 dah, kang dapat kanser mula la nak mintak derma sana sini…..

  12. 12 whitepepper Aug 2nd, 2007 at 2:37 pm Quote

aku suka jugak lagu gwen walaupun aku tak sokong dia buat konsert kat sini….

I’m an American and I wanted to give other countries a thumbs up for standing the moral ground.

Music is a great opportunity to express oneself…but I can’t imagine why one would promote lyrics as
‘Drive back baby do me fast in your car’ and other such highly sexual–not to mention weird–lyrics.

I’m not sure how everyone else feels on the subject since I can not read the language all the comments are posted in, but I thought I would give an American point of view.

We’re not all Bush-lovin, War-Promoting Sexual beings. Many of us get disgusted with media portrayals and the fact that people like Gwen Stefani make oodles of money hanging their private parts out and singing slutty songs.

  14. 14 wantie Aug 3rd, 2007 at 12:23 pm Quote

    Hi… Shania Rae

Actually, I also like the Gwen stefani song. But just dont like to watch her perform in concert or Video Clips. I felt that the way she wear and dance could not help me to enjoy the lyric.

We malaysian, just want to avoid the bad influent to our people which is can degress of our social problem.

Soory to say that most of the American Singer have a bad sosial life. example pregnant without marriage ( Madonna) gay (Elton John)and many more.

haih, orang Malaysia ni, sedar diri dulu… sendiri tak betul, nak kate mat salleh bwk influence plak… kalo come to worst, haramkan la org islam pergi.. tunjuk IC time beli ticket… rational la sket kat org bangsa lain. nampak sangat bangsa kita melayu ni bodoh. tengok la festival filem semalam.. hancur.. grafik teruk, tak organised, tak meriah, even host lelaki pun rambut panjang.. tu tak ke merendahkan budaya timur… ish, orang melayu ni kalau dipanggil bodoh marah.. saya sebagai orang melayu malu dengan bangsa sendiri yang asyik harap scholarship bumipitera, MRSM, pinjaman MARA,… tapi x pernah nak berusaha lawan dengan bangsa lain… nak ckp jgn marah, ahli-ahli persatuan pelajar muslim tu, yang pakai tudung tu, confirm ke tak buat maksiat? confirm x berasmara dana dkt taman? confirm x buat maksiat sampai keluar video minah tudung berkelakuan sumbang> betulkan diri dahulu, sebelum betulkan orang lain..!

  17. 17 wantie Aug 7th, 2007 at 12:12 pm Quote

Saya bukan nak cakap sape yang bodoh. nampaknya yang cakap tu lagi bodoh…

Dah tengok filem lucah mula la nak ikut. ( sebab tu la aku kata influent dari luar).” Asmara kat taman tu ikut stail saperrrr? Omputihla.. ( sebab tu cegah la sebelum merebak kat generasi muda dan yang bakal lahir nanti…

  18. 18 Megatron Aug 8th, 2007 at 10:30 am Quote

well said gweng… i truly agree wit u.
wantie… stop being so naive. jgn suma nak salahkan omputih je. omputih ke melayu ke, kita suma manusia jugak.
i see u r a very negative thinking person, otak u suma pikir yg tak baik je. try and appreciate gwen’s talents rather than her being sexy.
if u think gwen concert brings bad influence to our culture, then i think mawi brings a bad influence to the music industries. suara sumbang dan tak sedap mcm dia tu pun bole jadi penyanyi. kalau dia jadi ikon malaysia, malu la malaysia di mata Asia.

  19. 19 wantie Aug 8th, 2007 at 10:55 am Quote

walaupun telah di jajah, melayu kita masih tak sedar-sedar.

Inilah yang dikatakan penjajahan minda. I tak kisah kalau u all kata I ni negative thinking. Tapi rasanya tak salah jika berfikiran begitu demi menjaga negara dan anak bangsa daripada pendedahan gejala sosial…

  20. 20 Zizi Aug 15th, 2007 at 4:34 pm Quote

What a fuss! it really annoys me. What’s the point of banning a concert when u can watch it everyday on TV? If so, please just banned ASTRO and all foreign magazines and banned people from travelling abroad. What, do u think Puteri Gunung Ledang’s costume is sooo decent? And all the P.Ramlee’s stories… pls lah.

If u dont wana do it, u will not do it. If u still wana do sth, u will still do it e.g. even people in the deep suburbs area which dont have cable tv etccan still do drugs, rape, murder etc . who the h*ll influence them?

Stop blaming others. U cant stop the world from moving but you can equip urself to face the world. So, pls stop being ridiculous! No one force u to go to the concert. If u dont wana go, u dont have to go. Why??? I dont understand…

  21. 21 cobaan Aug 15th, 2007 at 6:42 pm Quote

Kinda agree with Zizi. Puteri Gunung Ledang, Haru Biru, Kayangan, etc pakaian berkemban, adegan berpeluk, cium pipi/dahi etc, takpe! Filem controversi boleh dapat award, diiktiraf and whatsoever. Why? Sokong local talent and local movies? Its time to clean up our own backyard first.

Agaknya kalau Gwen tengok cara artis kita berpakaian, berlakon, beraksi dan sebagainya, apa komen dia.

  22. 22 rizal Aug 17th, 2007 at 10:39 pm Quote

There’s no point blaming this person or that person. Actually, we have to focus on each individual. Some individuals get easily swayed and some don’t. Those who don’t, alhamdulillah. I’ve been living abroad for many years and had seen orang melayu trying to be ‘omputih’ (this is a racial slur by the way) while some do stay as truly orang melayu. There’s no point blaming someone who doesn’t even know the code of conduct or the code of dress of malay or muslim society here. What we can do is take the good example from other people and discard the bad one. Like for example, the internet. It was ‘omputih’s’ invention but I don’t think most malays use it to watch porn. We even do research about halal, haram and Al-Quran using the internet. We have to think for ourselves - then we will not be succumbed to the so-called penjajahan minda. By the way, influent is an adjective, not a noun.

  23. 23 rizal Aug 20th, 2007 at 1:03 am Quote

and elton john is not an american. ape awak merepek ni? racist lah.

Urgh,.,,Malaysia’s terlampau sensitive about these things. I wish we were more open minded like Singapore. No wonder the economy is WAY better in Singapore. And look, even their currency rate is higher than ours for a small sized country….. yeesh! Sensitive betul Malaysia nie….Tapi, what can we do???? :(
