What’s with a Girl Band? Everywhere you go, you will definitely find that there at least one in each country. Why this is the case? Apart from being able to see cute girls dancing cheerfully in their skimpy dresses, there’s hardly anything else that can be considered as a plus point. But some girl groups in some countries really shine with their amazing voices, well except for one or two free riders in the group who pretends that she can sing.
In the UK, they have SPICE GIRLS and GIRL ALOUD. Spice Girls is the all-female band that has made VICTORIA BECKHAM famous despite her lame voice. All she had to show was her slim body, sexy pout and pointed breasts. Very easy role if you ask me, considering she could get herself banned behaving that way had she joined groups called FEMININ or ELITE in Malaysia.

In Korea, it has to be THE WONDER GIRLS. The Wonder Girls reality series has been MTV Korea’s most successful local production of recent times. The show launched its first season in December last year tracking the formation of the five members all-girl band, the Wonder Girls. Given the dominance of local music as opposed to international work in Korea, a key element of MTV’s Korea strategy is to generate platforms for showcasing hot home grown talents. The program was developed in collaboration with JYP Entertainment, the music label and artiste management company behind many big name Korean stars, including current king of Korean pop music, Rain. The series quickly gathered a loyal following among viewers, both on-air and in the digital realm as well. A special online showcase was one of the main points of the promotion around the launch of the group, and the new MTView service was there to promote high-quality digital content around the event. The Wonder Girls plan to debut in the United States some time in early 2008, joining their mentor and producer Park Jin-young for his month-long “Bad Concert” tour as a special guest. YP Entertainment has announced that world-famous stars like R. Kelly, Outkast, and Will Smith are scheduled to attend the tour.

Oh yes..don’t forget MALAYSIA. We have many girl bands too.. Two of the most famous groups are FEMININ and ELITE. There are also ALL-FEMALE bands that focus on NASYID songs like SOLEHAH.

They are just too many of them, that I think MEDIA PRIMA or ASTRO should do a GIRL BAND SINGING OLYMPICS programme or something. A singing competiting that consists of ALL-FEMALE BANDS would be interesting. The rating could easily be higher than AKADEMI FANTASIA. Winner will be decided by SMS vote of course! The reward will also be given to the highest SMS voter in the form of a date with the winning FEMALE GROUP. This definitely will attract all hotblooded males out there to spend like crazy on sms’s. Don’t expect your average Joe to win. But rest assured you can count on the likes of DATUK S, DATUK J who have significant purchasing power to reach the finishing line first. It’s a good PR exercise to promote MALAYSIA too..
