MORE than 30 singers from 14 countries have competed to be the next ‘world star’ at Penang’s Auto-City in Juru last Friday and Saturday (25-26 April 2008). The 10th Shanghai Asia Music Festival, now renamed Penang-Shanghai World Star Quest 2008 has been staged for the first time outside Shanghai, China. Shanghai Asia Music Festival 2003 Gold winner Misha Omar and Malaysian Idol 2005 winner Daniel Lee were there for special appearances.
At this event, Shila, the second place winner of this year’s One in A Million singing reality contest, and Frankie Yu, Astro Talent Quest 2007 top ten finalist, have represented Malaysia. Shila has done MALAYSIA proud by winning the Gold Quest Award (overall winner) and winning For Best Song Award (Memori Tercipta). He’s the youngest at 18 at the competition defeating 24 other contestants. But the most uncomfortable thing about this song competition is that it was sponsored by SPORTS TOTO MALAYSIA.
