MALAYSIA’s political scene is in shambles. Our economy is shaky. Here’s a TOP FIVE’s list of my concern with regard to the current state of our MALAYSIA today: [almy nadia - click here]

  1. Loss of Distinctive Competitive Edge: What can we really say that we are really good at that others can’t replicate? Halal hub? Australia and Brazil have been exporting HALAL beef in great numbers for years to MOSLEM countries. Semi-conductor? PENANG will lose out to China and India in immediate future. Islamic Banking? Singapore is catching up very fast.
  2. Lack of Visionary Leaders: I miss Tun Mahathir very much. It’s hard to find anyone in Malaysia politics these days who can speak about the future scenarios, let alone doing a scenario planning which will determine our country strategies for the economy in the future. All of our strategies have been short term and only tackle short term symptoms and not the root of it all. For example, increasing prices of food, is there any plan by the government to improve and increase farming activities? Do you see more people growing rice? Population in Malaysia is swelling, steps must be taken to ensure that food is in abundant supply to prevent rising costs of food supplies. Politicians thinking short term instead of long term by playing populist politics. This is very dangerous!
  3. Poor thinking skills amongst students: Still rote learning. There is no subject on philosophy in school. They hardly read current business, economic issues but yet has degree in the subject. Soft skills are not developed at early stage. Developed only at certain schools such as MRSM and private schools.
  4. Teaching of Science and Maths in English without having the teachers themselves conversant in English: Teachers need to improve their English substantially and should not depend on laptops and LCDs to do the teaching.
  5. Political Instability: Why not strive for your cause in UMNO/BN, instead of jumping to another party? Where is the voice of democracy in BN that is supposed to be at work?
