PROTON has impressed the world with the unveiling of its Hybrid Car at the ongoing Geneva International Motorshow called Proton Emas. The concept version of the car, shown in three variants, was launched recently by Proton adviser Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. I guess Malaysians must be proud. Production is expected to start by 2012. EMAS is short for Eco Mobility Advance Solution. The car was styled by ItalDesign Giugiaro, while the powertrain was developed by Lotus Engineering. Other automobile designs that had been developed by Guigiaro were Daewoo Matiz, Bugatti, Fiat Punto, Hyundai Sonata, Masserati Coupe, BMW Nascar, Volkswagen, Scirocco Ford Mustang, Saab. Don’t get too excited as yet as like other hybrid cars, the car has a low cc. The drive system is a series hybrid plug-in developed by Lotus Engineering, a Proton Group company. It includes a 3 cylinder 1.2 litre internal combustion engine developing 51 horsepower (38 kW) at 3500 rpm that can run on petrol, ethanol, or methanol. Drive is assured by an electric motor with continuous power of 45 kW and 75 kW peak power.  The high maximum torque, 240 Nm, does not require the use of a gearbox.  Acceleration 0-100 km/h takes place in 14 seconds, top speed is 170 km/h and battery range in the hybrid configuration is 50 km. Full recharging of the battery pack takes three hours using a traditional 240-volt outlet.

TOK TUN MAHATHIR AND PROTON EMAS.. :)

This will give PERODUA a run for their money. I wonder why they stop producing Kelisa and Kancil as they are their main income earners.
